Vacation: Day 1

If you come here via facebook, THANKS!  I didn't want to post pictures all day long... I started with 150.... aren't you glad I didn't fill up your newsfeed?  :)

We began our vacation journey, yesterday.  I was a bit worried that once we got everything loaded and on the road, the kids would have a complete melt down.  Much to my surprise, they were perfect.  There were a few small episodes, but we made it and life is wonderful this morning, waking up and looking out the window at the Mississippi river.  very, very, very cool.

So- If you know me, I fly by the seat of my pants.  Always have.  It's a trait :)
When we got to the Oklahoma/Arkansas state line, everyone was still a little high from beginning our vacation, and didn't realize that we would be in the car for eight more hours.  We decided to stop on the side of the road and take a picture with the welcome sign.

The plan was to do this at each state we entered.

Yes, this is just Kev and the tots.  I was behind the camera, where mom is, right?  For the record, Kevin took about six of me and the kids.  I deleted them.  Accidently... PROMISE!

Driving on the interstate- this is about all you see... I do think it's pretty, though.  I love that I live where trees are abundant.  I just wish I had those "mountains" in the picture at our house.  Someday? :)

After watching Disney's Cars I sorta feel guilty when travelling via interstate... do you?

This is the Russellville, Arkansas Nuclear power plant, named Arkansas Nuclear One. We actually stopped and drove down to it. I have several pictures, but this is my favorite.  I know there are dangers to nuclear power, but people... ITS AWESOME.

Having a nice chat?  We stopped at a hole in the wall place close to the plant for lunch.  It was really pretty good.  That's the rule, right?  While on vacation, search out the craziest places that only locals eat at?  They are the best places, right?

Little Rock came and went like a flash!  Once we got out of Little Rock, we were both (kevin and myself) on un-charted territory.  Neither of us have been south of LR via car.

Blayne was starting to get sick of looking at farms by this point :)

"oh, hey there.... i'm just sitting here with a bucket on my head... what?!!"

Yes... Somewhere in southern Arkansas/ northeastern LA peeps drive with a bunch of dogs on their trucks.  Now that I am blogging the picture, it isn't nearly as funny.  However, after being in the car for almost six hours, it was funny to see the floppy ears.  AND- I didn't have cell phone signal to surf facebook or twitter for HOURS.

Had I know that we would driver for hours through farmland... I probably would have taken a nap.  ...oh, wait.

Transylvania, LA (I think...)  It was picture worthy, but the town...not soooo much.

CELL PHONE TOWER!  I'm not even kidding... we went a long, long, LONG time without seeing these. Also, in Oklahoma iPhones are everywhere... not here.  Flip phones, baby.  We get a lot of stares, especially when the kids have them...

Boog loves a good train.... :)

And just when I thought that I had enough soy bean fields (and corn, and cotton, and wheat...)...

We made it to the mighty mississippi river.  I wish I were a photographer/artist.  This bridge is beautiful. The black train bridge, even more so.

This is where we landed for Night 1. The Rainbow hotel and casino.  (They had an indoor pool, people.)

It's really pretty cool.

This is the Mississippi River at sunset.  I promise, this is straight out of the camera.  I didn't filter or edit any of the pictures. I don't have time, and really... who cares?
This is my favorite shot  (that didn't have my kids in it) of the day.  Perfect way to end the day.

It's 9:47 and we are getting ready for Day 2.
