Soccer Mom :)

Soccer Mom.

Man, that's something I NEVER thought I would use to describe myself.  Growing up, we played Football, Baseball (Softball), and Basketball.  Okay, Softball and Basketball...and I threw in a little bit of Volleyball when I lived in New Mexico and Utah.  I'm not going to pretend to be even lukewarm in either basketball or volleyball :)

I did however, learn the rules.  I know the rules, what the fouls mean, what happens when you do commit a foul etc.

I don't even know what to call the equipment in soccer!

Yesterday, Saturday, I watched my oldest play in his very first soccer game.  I had a blast.  I never knew how great it would feel to just go and cheer, just to cheer.  I didn't worry if rules were going to be broken.  I didn't worry if the kids weren't being taught the correct way.  I just sat in my lawn chair, camera in hand and I cheered, and laughed, and had the most fun I've had in a long time.

I can't believe this year is such a year of firsts for my little guy.  I'm happy to watch him grow, yet, it's happening so quickly!!

Now, to the pictures.  Some will be captioned, some won't.  This was absolutely the most fun I've had in a while.  I can't wait until next Saturday.

Blayne kicking off to start the game.  First kick off, ever...

After running fast to the kickoff, he put on the brakes? What??

This  is what happens when you brake too soon, you kick on TOP of the ball... ummmm

That wasn't supposed to happen! He crashed his first kick.  :)

Apparently, it hurt his booty.  I still laugh when I see these pictures.
priceless.

Here's the team. U6 Purple Pirates.  So small!

Hey mom!  I'm a soccer player...hahahahahaha

In U6, they play 3on3  It works out great because we have six players.
This is group one. Blayne, C, and J.

I love seeing blayne run so hard!  Hands in the fist position because he's heard,
"NO HANDS!" so many times :)

Checking out the other team.  Game faces right here people!

J is throwing it in.  I love how they make them cross their legs. so cute!

I love my Purple Pirate :)

Do a litte dance... Make a little Noise :)

This is Coach.  He is Amazing.  Love him!

Isn't she beautiful!  M is the only girl, but she keeps up with the stinky boys!

J... he looks tired because he carried group 1 on his back :)  He's such a good kiddo.

Group 1 watching group 2 get their soccer on.

This is group 2.  They were so, so, so funny.

Giving coach (and daddy) some love!

Goooooooooaaaaaaaaalllllllll

Same team means nothing when you are 5ish.

These two are so funny.  Love these little guys :)

My lucky # isn't 28

August 28th isn't my favorite day.  Ever.

If you are tired of hearing about my medical "stuff" then this isn't the blog for you.  However, I need to get this out.  I need to do it for ME.

Last August 28th (2011) I woke up in the early morning hours and couldn't walk.  I couldn't just not walk, I couldn't stand up.  I couldn't get out of the house had there been a fire.  I would have been in big trouble.
That morning is, and always will be, etched so vividly in my mind.  Kevin thought I was making a big deal out of a sore back.  He was supposed to go to work and thought I just wanted him to stay home.  I mean, four hours earlier, Emileigh woke up and I jumped out of bed to tend to her.  When the alarm went off at 07:00 - My life was different.  Maybe forever.

The past year has been so stressful.  To my marriage, to our finances, to relationships within my family.  My mental state has been good and really poor.  It's really hard to depend on people for every aspect in your life.  Two major back surgeries, five steroid injections, many doctor appointments, and more money than I care to admit later... and I could proudly say, we survived such a crazy year.  Barely at times, but we did.

This August promised a turn of events. Although I take more neuronton in one day than most do in 23 days and live on pain medication, the beginning of school and soccer for Blayne and dance class for Emileigh was on the horizon.  We jumped head first into church, I jumped back into friendships that have been idle for over a decade, and finally, Kevin went back to school to get some classes finished for that elusive Nursing degree.

We always take one step forward and land five steps back it seems.

Broken Foot Day 3

Exactly one year later... I broke my foot.

Broken.

Snapped.

Ruined.

To say I'm in a bad place mentally is an understatement.

I have to keep telling myself that bones heal.  I will not need surgery, and this will get better!!
The doctors have said that in 3 to 6 weeks, I'll be walking again.  I'll have to wear a really cute boot for a while when I start to bear weight on it again... but I'll be able to walk.

Until then, I am back to depending on my husband who is stretched so thin he'll be lucky if he isn't at a mental hospital soon.  I'm also blessed to have my grandparents who step in and do way more than needed.  I pretty much get pushed to the side of the road and my kids walk the straight and narrow :)

My neighbor, Gina has been so great with helping us feed, water, and exercise (SPOIL) Bobo... he probably thinks he belongs to her.  She has cooked dinner for us and will again, she "called it" already.

I'm lucky my kiddos are so resilient.  I'm lucky I have family members willing to help more than my needs allow.  I'm lucky that I have a husband who loves me, through sickness and health.  I'm really working on that sickness part lately. ")

Speaking of resilient kiddos and an amazing husband, they had plans to spend Saturday together from before my broken foot episode.  They ending up picnicking and hanging out at the splash pad.

Seriously Bristow, we really, really, really, need a splash pad.

Here are some pictures of their day.  Kevin snapped a few in between bathroom breaks, but that's another story.  Gotta love EmJ.

Today, while Daddy is at work saving lives, Emileigh was able to convince memaw she needed Fwinger Nail Polwish on her toe nwails.  Lucky for her, she is the favorite great-granddaughter and her demands are greatly received :)

Dear Blayne - 1st day

Dear Blayne -

Do you know how fast five years goes by?   I do.  Way to quickly.  I can remember when I was a little girl, it seemed like forever.  FIVE whole years?  I takes less time to get through high school!  Five years is such a long time when you are young, or when you are looking forward to something.  When you are a mom... it goes faster than I could ever imagine.

Five years ago, we we knew about you for exactly 7 days.  In my mind then, you were seven days old :)  Pre-K was so far away, I'm not sure I even thought about it until you were two.  I realized that I could fit your life in four sets of five years... Blayne, I only have 3/4 of my time left.  How did that happen?

This summer wasn't spent talking about going to school much.  We continued our schedule of chaos.  We went to bed when we were sleepy, we napped when we were sleepy, and we woke up to snuggle in our beds while watching cartoons.  Most days were spent in your underoos, rarely did I force outfits or outings.  We played, we colored, we snuggled.  You have the kindest heart.  Please protect it, son.

In April, we had our very first family vacation to Destin, Fl.  I'm fully confident that you would live there in a nanosecond.  You love the beach and the ocean.  While there, I started to realize that you were outgrowing the toddler age and you were becoming a little boy.  You changed so much this summer, Blayne.  It was such a joy to watch.

In May, Momma and Daddy decided that we wanted you and Emileigh to be Purple Pirates (like mommy) and decided to move to Bristow.  June 1st we moved into our "new-new" house.  You took the move in stride and we started to talk about school.  We started attending FBC mainly because I wanted to see how you would react in a classroom environment after being out for so long.  You THRIVED.  You loved the kids and all of the activities.

In August, we went to your school for open house/meet the teacher night.  Blayne, you cried when we left because you didn't want to come home.  melt.my.heart.

There were some talk among some that you would have trouble in school because you spent so much time home with Mommy and Emileigh.  The fear that you would have major separation anxiety was voiced to me more than once.  I knew you would be fine, buddy.  You were ready.

On August 16th, 2012- you started school.

You went to bed the night before like a champ.  At 7:00, I woke you up, you ate your breakfast, got dressed, and we went outside to start pictures.  You were so dang excited... I was just completely happy.
On the way to school, we called Daddy, Papa, and Doodah.  They all told you good luck and you said THANKS!

We walked straight to your classroom, you put your backpack on the hook and picked out a puzzle.  Officially a student.

I walked out with a smile on my face.  Proud doesn't come close to the feeling I felt, but there aren't words available to adequately describe the feelings.

Right now, you are a happy 4 year old who loves school.  You love your friends and love making friends.  You play on the playground with "buzz-girl" who apparently is known as Olivia to non-superheros.  You have had your first run-ins with Big Jackson, and chose to protect "little Jackson" because your heart is so sweet.  Day 2 you tested Miss Keli, she won... you've been amazing every day since.

You come home and sing a new song every day.  You are excited about your shapes and all that comes with learning.  You are allowing yourself to soak up everything that is happening right now, I LOVE THAT.

I pray that I can keep this excitement about learning going throughout high school.  I'm so proud of you already Little Man.  So very proud.

Love Momma.

Tiny Dancer

Last Saturday, I joined about sixteen million other crazy moms, and took advantage of Oklahoma's tax-free weekend.  Big deal when you are school shopping and able to combine the tax-free offer with the mega-sales the stores have.   I ended up saving a pretty substantial pile of cash, and Blayne scored some great gear for his very first year of school.  Promise, this is a big deal, and I will no doubt be posting a sad/happy post.  However, this isn't about back to school shopping.

This is a post about a little trip to the cutest little shop on 71st street.

At this cute little shop... you buy things that come in packages like this:

Pink and Black :)

I can remember the day my parents sat me down on the couch and asked me if I wanted to take dance class.  We lived in Edna, in the school house a lot of my oldest friends remember.  I'm not sure why, but I was sitting on the arm and my dad was sitting on the cushion next to me.  My mom came into the room and said, "have you asked her yet?"  Dad said, "No.  Isn't this something you want to ask her?"  I was almost six years old.  I remember feeling a little bit scared.

Mom asked me, "Jennifer, would you like to take dance lessons this year once you start school?"  I remember being SO SO SO excited.  Girls who took dance lessons got to wear pink skirts, and make up, and sparkles.  I couldn't jump up and down fast enough.  I jumped right into my daddy's arms and he laughed.  I remember him laughing like it was yesterday.  He laughed.

I remember the first year we danced to the Pink Panther theme, and Jean Ann taught me how to turn cartwheels.  When it came time for recital, the make-up was caked on, and the stage was set.  I don't remember actually seeing anyone in the crowd because the lights were so bright, but I do remember watching my beautiful teacher dance.  She was one of my first heroes.  She dated my favorite uncle, she was beautiful, and so kind.  She allowed my friends and I to have extra candy, and she gave us hand-made gifts.  She hugged us so tightly, and she smelled so good.  Oh, and her dance attire, beautiful.  She even looked beautiful in sweat pants.  I loved her.

A few years ago, cancer took her away from hundreds of little girls, let alone her own.  She was much to young, and my own daughter was cheated from being a student of hers.  I know Emileigh would have loved Jean Ann.

When we moved to Bristow, Dance was one of the first things I told Kevin I would be enrolling Em-J into.  I hope and pray she loves it.  I don't care if she is amazing or funny. I just hope she falls in love with the music and the friendships she will make.  I am still very close with some of the girls I started dance class with in 198-something. ")

I couldn't help but be a bit emotional when buying things like ballet shoes, tap shoes, and leotards.

I can't wait to see my baby the first day :)  Growing up.  I know Jean Ann is smiling.

Aren't these shoes and leotards ADORABLE?!? Small so small :)

The one about faith

I'm the girl who is able to see both sides of an argument.  In fact, there are many times when I start to argue one side, forget, and switch to the other side.  It's a trait.  It comes in handy when meeting new people, however, I am at a major disadvantage when I'm trying to convince my husband that I need to be right.

This trait has allowed me to be very open with different people's religious views.  Notice I didn't really say faith :)  To me, faith is personal.  It isn't something most people are able to explain, it just is.

I have been able to attend many different churches and really get something from each, because of this little trait.

My grandmother is the first person to drag my rear inside a church.  We attended the Slick First Baptist Church in, you guessed it, Slick, Oklahoma.  If I close my eyes and allow myself to go back there, I can still smell the old building.  I know exactly where Flora sat (next to the sunday school room that allowed you to sneak out of the sanctuary, back where children's church was held... they had cookies there!) I know that gram would have mint gum, ink pens, and a stern look if I was loud.  Church was where I learned to draw, pass notes, learn that sometime people should just lip sing, or whisper (ME!),  and that grown men would sometimes cry, and that was okay, we just didn't talk about it.  I took the walk down the aisle when I was six or seven, wanting to make my grandmother proud.  I'll NEVER forget the look on her face when I looked into the congregation after reciting the sinner's prayer.  She was crying...and smiling...and laughing.  All three.  You know, like the Trinity. :)  The song Karen played, "I have decided to follow Jesus" still stops me in my tracks when I hear it.  Still.

We moved away from this area when I was in the seventh grade.  I attended baptist churches in New Mexico, Utah, and Purcell Oklahoma before landing back in Slick for my senior year.

While in Utah, I was lucky enough to not get beat up when I called one of the Temple's a "big house" and even attempted to sneak into one or two while at softball tournaments.  I would sit in the back of the athletic bus and talk to the girls for miles and miles about what we believed to be true.  I was so interested.  Our beliefs are so, so, so SO SO SO different.  So interesting at the same time :)

When I came back to Bristow, I attended the advent christian church.  again, very different from my foundation, but I learned to love differences and loved the people, so I really couldnt see how it was wrong, right?

As I grew older, though... religion started to make my mouth sour.  I'm not a religious person.  I don't believe in labels.  To me, if you believe the basics (what Jesus taught) then, the small details are okay. I mean, really... baptists, southern baptists, have only been around since the civil war... but CHRISTIANS have been around...well, a few years longer.

***Sorry to be jumping around... I'm getting to my point...***

When my family, TeamTaylor, moved back to Bristow, my #1 goal was to get my kiddos to Sunday School.  I wasn't confident that I could teach them about Jesus.  Not the way they need.  The foundation they need.

At first, I didn't care who, where, when, anything... we just needed to find a church family.  Then, the unthinkable happened to one of my oldest friends and I ended up sitting in a big beautiful church listening to her preacher talk to a capacity-filled sanctuary about the love of Jesus and the pain of life.  I knew in that moment, where my family would be spending our Sunday mornings.

At the time, I was only thinking of my children.  Kevin works on Sunday, and I didn't care much about me.

A few weeks ago, I started a bible study with some of the women, led by one of the sweetest people in Creek County.  The book we are reading, becoming more than a good bible study girl, by Lysa TerKeurst, is FREAKING AMAZING...OHMYGOSH

She explains in the book (we are only on ch. 4) that
* sometimes you have to give stuff up that you have been holding onto to allow God to work.
* things are most often idols (Whaaa?)
* trust.  Trust.  TRUST.

I type ALL of that above to say this....  today, God was here with us.  We got rid of our brand new, 11 miles when we bought it, car.  When we did, we didn't know what we were going to do, we just knew that we couldn't continue to afford it.  We just couldn't.
Today, we were able to purchase a new (to us :) ) car, which is so much better than our one year old car we just had to have.
Today, we are back to a two car family... with no lein holders.

I can look back on my life, and see where God is.  Whether or not I chose to acknowledge him, he was there.  He guided me where I need to be, let me fall FLAT on my face, allowed me to suffer great heartbreak, and get fat.  He also has made sure, because I truly believe, that I stayed on the right path.  Well, Him and grandma teamed up on that one.

I know that this blog is long... I just needed to get it all out there, tonight.

If you are in Bristow, or close.  Please allow me to bring you with me to church one Sunday.  I can promise, you will come back.  We can even sit in the back, where good baptists sit!  You can even wear...jeans!

Six Pounds Down

Where did I go?!!  I'm still here... life has just thrown us a loop (as it usually does when you start something good).  I started going to weight watcher's meetings last Thursday (July 12) and the first meeting, I put up a weight loss of six (6) pounds.  While everyone was super excited, I was just okay.
I know that six pounds is a big deal... I could have gained it, right?  I know that I spend last Saturday with a group of girls that included certain beverages and an amazing dinner.  All in all, I lost six pounds.  I guess, I just wish that I had never put myself in this position.  I'm frustrated with everything that I have held back for so long.  I am frustrated that I turned into a different person and ran instead of facing it.

I'm happy for the first six pounds.  I am.  I'm more excited about the fact that it's a start in the right direction.

57 - 63 - 55 - 17 - 31

57 - 63 - 55 - 17 - 31

What I am about to do... is maybe one of the toughest things I've ever done.  Actually, this is probably THE toughest things I've ever done.  I've thought about this blog post for three years.  Maybe, longer than that?  The thing is, tonight, I'm just sitting on my bed, indian style, with my bible, my camera, my iPhone, and my dog, Bobo... and letting the words go from my mind to my fingers across this computer keyboard.

I'm not sure that much will make sense.  I am pretty sure that I will read this and fight the urge to delete it in a week.  I hope that I will be strong enough to keep it alive.  I hope that find the strength to keep this journey alive.  Because, well... I am doing it not only for myself, but for two little amazing little people.  Two little people that call me mom.

Growing up, I was always a picky eater.  Food, that is supposed to be good for you, doesn't taste the same to me as it does most of the population.  I was always a thin girl, I can remember my grandpa warning me that I was going to dry up and blow away.

When I hit puberty, I gained weight.  I was always a little taller than most of the girls in my class, and was fit.  I played softball like it was the only thing that kept me breathing for much of my life before I turned 20.  I played Volleyball to keep in shape for basketball season, then played Basketball so I would be ready for softball season.  It was a cycle.  One that afforded me the luxury to eat the chips and Pepsi for lunch.

For most of my life... this is what people saw when they looked at me:

Christmas 1997

Softball 1997 Senior Year

8th grade I was 14

When I was 17 I had shoulder surgery.  We were in Purcell, Oklahoma at the time.  I ended up missing most of softball season that year and basketball season.  I was pretty devastated.  I had dreamed of trying out for the jr. Olympic softball team when I turned 18, and to me... the dream was gone.  My softball coach from Utah flew into Oklahoma and worked with me.  She showed me conditioning drills, strength drills, and really just got into my head and helped me to see that anything was possible.  I worked really hard and ended up playing my senior year.

Unfortunately- life throws us curve balls and even though we are watching the ball, and we swing with the most perfect mechanics, we still miss and strike out.  My third strike came on December 1st, 1997.  I injured my achilles tendon on my right foot.  Not only did I end my athletic career, I gave up on a lot more.

I started to gain weight...

Slowly at first... but before I had graduated high school, I had gained 25 pounds.  For the first time, I was pretty concerned about my weight.  I remember sitting in my grandma's living room talking about it with her and the guy I was dating.  I said, I really need to lose 30 pounds... He bet me that I would gain 20 before I lost it.  (REALLY???? If I had the ability to go back in time, I would kick him in his... KNEE)  I don't know how it happened, but those words stayed with me... and before I knew it, he was right.

That was in 1999.

13 years later... here I sit.  Finally ready to do something about it.  Only, 25 pounds is the least of my worries.

57 - 63 - 55 - 17 - 31

No, those numbers aren't lottery numbers.  Those numbers my friends, are measurements.  My measurements.

I am going to try and blog my journey though this weight loss/lifestyle change journey.  I hope that those of you that come to this blog, do so with prayers, support, and tips.  Please, leave your comments... I'd love to know that you are getting something out of this.

I'm going to post some "before" pictures.  they really are just current shots, because today is my before.
I took these, well, kevo snapped them, right after we did the insanity fit test.  You know, insanity....

While I worried about my hair... after looking at them, I know that isn't what you are going to notice.

Sad, right?  Even worse:
  • Waist  -  57"
  • Hips   -  63"
  • Chest  -  55.5"
  • Arms -  17"
  • Thighs  31"

Oh- and the weight...

I weigh three hundred, twenty-six pounds.

I'm going to need a lot of help, support, water, everything.  The accountability is my blog.  I hope this journey will inspire others.

This is what I see when I dream at night, you see I don't see myself as a fat girl.

This is what I hope to be able to do again... sooner than later :)

My style

Since we moved to Bristow, we have been covered up in boxes.  There really isn't much difference in the square footage of this house from our last one, we just don't have a garage with this one.  Garages = home for all of my junk, not car.
Slowly, I have unpacked, sorted, and put away.  I haven't decorated at all inside, I've only bought a few plants for outside.  I am DYING to decorate.
The problem... the color scheme my house is painted.
  • The living room and my bedroom (which is visible clearly through the french doors off my living room) is an oatmeal cream color.
  • The south wall in my living room, the one that you first see when you walk in my door, is painted red.  It's a pretty red, a barn + rust, red.
  • The dining room and kitchen is blue.  It's a soft but bold blue.  The dining room is visible in the living room
  • The bathroom is a beautiful color blue.  It takes me right to the ocean, I'm in LOVE with that color. Here's the color:

  • emileigh's room is Pink  it is decorated with Minnie Mouse-Dora-and Parisian
  • Blayne's room is bright blue-green -  we will be doing it in Angry Birds (i have no choice)
About 13 years ago, I was in love with the red/white/blue color scheme and deco.  I was into it before September 11th and before the main stream jumped on the patriotic bandwagon.  I enjoyed the search that was associated with finding just the right thing for my house.  It felt like a win when I found just the right thing.  That was before Kevin, and way before kids.  I guess I just burned myself out?  Don't get me wrong, June and July are major RWB months for me... but not year round.  A few years ago, I got rid of most of my decorations.

Then, we move here.

So- while I love the colors, individually I'm not interested in decorating with them being the primary. My bedroom quilt is still a countryfried version of red, white, and blue, but that's going away... soon.

I've said all that, to say this.

I'm not an interior decorator, but I am an awesome pinterest(er).
I'm not a decision maker, on anything. AT ALL
I have to see something before I can understand the concept
I'm NOT made of money, not even pennies, so this must be done on the cheap.
I do not want cheap to mean trashy.

The next few posts will be filled with things tat make me smile, or what I think I want.  For my B-town readers, feel free to come over and see first hand...

i need help, people!

Here is my pinterest board http://pinterest.com/jentaylor03/for-the-home/
